Yuan Jintang, a fiery-tempered, money-loving country girl, takes the place of a Minister's daughter and marries the cold-faced General Rong Jing. For two years, she pretends to be dignified and delicate, while maintaining a respectful but distant relationship with Rong Jing. Their peaceful life is suddenly shattered when Rong Jing is convicted of a crime and demoted, forcing Yuan Jintang to accompany him into exile.
