Cang Yue, the Wolf King of Cold Pine Ridge, fathers a white-furred, odd-eyed cub named Xue Jin. White fur is regarded as an omen of disaster, but Cang Yue eventually accepts his son. His younger brother, Xuan Ya, covets the throne and conspires with Xiao Gu to frame Cang Yue and kill him. After faking the scene, Xuan Ya seizes power and attempts to eliminate Xue Jin. His mother, Lan Zhi, risks her life to help him escape. Along the way, Xue Jin makes friends and trains in Stone Ridge Valley, growing stronger. After finding an eyewitness, he leads his allies in exposing the conspiracy. Xuan Ya loses their duel and falls off a cliff. Xiao Gu escapes and manipulates Xuan Ya's son, Ye Ya, later kidnapping Xue Jin's son, Xing Huo, to force a palace coup. At the decisive battle on Shattered Moon Ice Lake, Ye Ya finally sees the truth, while Xiao Gu and his accomplices perish in the icy river. Xue Jin forgives Ye Ya, who was deceived, and sends him to atone by guarding the frontier. Xue Jin finally understands that the true meaning of being a Wolf King is protecting one's pack and trusting one's companions.
