After seventeen-year-old Pu Yu's mother passed away, she and Yuan Su met in the rainy Windchime Alley. One escaping a native family that forced her to drop out of school, the other supporting a shattered life alone under the heavy pressure of a father's debts and a mother's illness. They met among the rain alley, old street, campus, repair shop, and courtyard lights; they experienced monthly exams, competitions, rumors, tuition fees, and illnesses together, and also witnessed the changing of the four seasons together. The light at the end of the old street, the soda on the way home from school, the aroma of steamed buns at the alley entrance in the early morning, and the starlight in the night on the mountain top constituted the smallest yet most burning evidence in their youth. Standing side by side and illuminating each other, they crossed the wind and rain together and walked toward the light that truly belonged to them.
