In 1981, peasant woman Shen Xiulan and Dashan picked up 4-year-old Yaya in the mountains. Taking the opportunity, the mother-in-law made trouble and separated the three of them to live on their own. Disregarding public criticism, Xiulan treated Yaya like the apple of her eye. Yaya was naturally sharp-eyed and had a great memory.
