Zhizhi, a modern-day veterinarian, travels back to ancient times and becomes the guardian of the animals in the mountains and forests. She rescues a poisoned panda cub being hunted by the prefect and leads an animal army through countless dangers to reach Spirit Herb Cliff. Through her kindness, she wins the trust of a giant serpent and obtains a thousand-year-old spiritual herb, successfully saving the cub's life. To stop the prefect from hunting animals to make pills and burning down mountains, endangering the people, Zhizhi disguises herself as a divine doctor and infiltrates the county town to gather evidence of his crimes. She joins forces with the Grand Tutor and the townspeople to expose the prefect's evil deeds at a Hongmen Banquet and bring him to justice. After receiving an honorary title from the Emperor, she establishes a veterinary clinic and a wildlife rescue center, and takes down a smuggling gang. Summoned to the capital by imperial decree, she cures the royal immortal crane but turns down a life of luxury and returns to the mountains. In the end, she achieves peaceful coexistence between humans and animals.
