Young man De Qiang and Xiu Lian are in love, but their marriage is hindered by the woman's mother, Chen Gui Lan. She forces De Qiang to send away his mentally ill mother, otherwise refusing to let them marry. Caught between family affection and love, De Qiang is deeply conflicted and almost makes a mistake. Ultimately, awakened by his sister's advice, he upholds filial piety and refuses the marriage. The vain and harsh Chen family mother and daughter feel remorse and apologize afterwards, but the hurt cannot be undone.
