Yaya and the gravely ill Granny Liu depend on each other for survival in the isolated Lotus Village. A landslide blocks the mountain road, cutting off the entire village's supplies of food and salt and leaving its twenty-one residents in desperate straits. In despair, Yaya clutches the little purse left by her mother and prays to the heavens. A miracle occurs—the purse grows hot and transports her to a bustling modern night market! Frightened yet determined, she faces unfamiliar neon lights and streams of traffic. She finds an overly salty braised egg in a trash can and takes it back to the village, saving Granny Liu's life. From then on, this tiny girl begins traveling back and forth between two worlds.
