The Truth Beneath the Old Kui Tree
After a year away from home, Zhao Laoshuan, a simple and honest farmer, returns to his village hoping to surprise his wife, Liu Xiaolan. But when he opens the door, he finds her looking flustered, and Li Laizi, the village rogue, hiding beneath their bed. His father, Zhao Shoutian, notices something suspicious, only to have the blame turned against him. Zhao Laoshuan stands up for his wife and separates from his father to start their own household. Liu Xiaolan becomes increasingly brazen. One day, Wang Guihua secretly discovers a package and overhears a chilling remark. Risking everything, she rushes into the house, just as Zhao Laoshuan raises a bowl of bubbling medicinal soup. Why does his wife's smile send a chill down one's spine? Whom should this simplehearted man trust, and how can he protect his family?
