In 1984 Northeast China, modern carpenter Zhou Chen wakes up, burdened with debt and despised by everyone. Creditors press for repayment. To protect his brother and sister-in-law's home, he uses his craftsmanship to turn waste materials into furniture. Starting from a broken courtyard, one managing technology and the other bookkeeping, they lead a group of looked-down-upon people to set rules, seize orders, and venture into the county town. They successively break conspiracies of material shortages, plagiarism, and fake orders, found "Yuelan Furniture", pay off old debts, and win back dignity and a new life.
