Shen Du, who abandoned the Dao to enter politics, had just assumed office as the magistrate of Heixuan County when he ran into a grievance-transformed "Grievance Mountain Demon" running amok in the public hall. Forced to pick up the secret arts of the Demon-Slaying Sect once again, he triggered a sect secret treasure during the fierce battle, catching a glimpse of the true version of the Taixuan Demon-Slaying Scripture, and his cultivation broke through to the Innate Realm. After the demon fled, Shen Du investigated and discovered that the missing persons cases among the commoners were entangled with the local influential Wang family, while the Grievance Mountain Demon even boasted that demons were reviving and the demon realm was approaching. Shen Du had to both solve cases to purge the officialdom and face the increasingly perilous demon disaster; the former demon-slaying disciple finally embarked on a brand-new path of subjugating demons between the yamen and the demons.
