The story takes place in a year with frequent heavy rainstorms. Old Zhou, a lonely old peasant whose wife passed away three years ago, guards the old house alone. His son Dayong and daughter-in-law Xiulan live next door. Internal conflicts within Snake Valley intensify; the leader Heifeng is brutal, enslaving the snakes in the valley. The spirit snake Qing Lin, to save a gravely ill baby snake, steals the spiritual fruit, the Scarlet Blood Fruit. Pursued by Heifeng, Qing Lin flees all the way to Taiping Village, thus beginning a bond between human and spirit snake that transcends life and death and keeps a solemn promise.
