Hunter Jiang Lie married village belle Lin Fengjiao and slept on a floor pallet for three years, yet suffered a scissor stab wound. Discovering by chance that his wife was having an affair with the city educated youth Shen Qingshu, with all his blood and sweat money stolen and sent away, he angrily divorced and reclaimed the betrothal gifts. After the divorce, he married the educated youth Wen Yao, who disguised herself as ugly to hide from trouble—actually a young lady of a capital traditional Chinese medicine family, living in the countryside to avoid enemy Wei Tiancheng. After marriage, Wen Yao removed her makeup to reveal peerless beauty, became famous for saving people with medical skills, worked hard to get rich, and wisely exposed the vicious mother-in-law, Little Douzi's mother, who faked being paralyzed for three years. Jiang Lie and his wife loved each other deeply, while Lin Fengjiao foolishly waited for Shen Qingshu, only to be swindled of money and body by him, driving her mad with regret.
