Zhiqiang goes on a blind date, and his younger brother Zhijun forcefully inserts himself into the mix. The blind date object, Fengjuan, takes a fancy to Zhijun who holds a position as a food factory team leader. Feeling depressed, Zhiqiang rescues Xiulian, and Xiulian, touched by him, decides to marry him. After marriage, Zhiqiang's mother divides the family property, and Zhiqiang and Xiulian use their allotted resources to make their life vibrant and thriving. Meanwhile, Zhijun and Fengjuan experience constant conflicts; Fengjuan is lazy and even gets addicted to gambling, losing all their savings and running up gambling debts. Their child is also lost due to her gambling, and finally Zhijun proposes a divorce. Fengjuan wakes up to reality and signs the divorce agreement, leading the two couples toward completely different endings.
