Chen Yuanshan, an old master chef, sells his old home and closes his restaurant for his son's sake. Yet in his later years, on his 60th birthday, his son, daughter-in-law, and in-law mother look down on him and drive him out of the house. On a rainy night, he finds his former apprentice, Zhou Mingyuan, and the two join forces to open Mingyuan Private Kitchen. On opening day, his daughter-in-law's family mistakes him for a waiter and humiliates him with their demands. After learning he is the owner, they refuse to pay and ask him for favors. As the restaurant grows popular, loyal longtime customers show up to stand by him. Meanwhile, his once-disdainful son suffers unemployment and failed investments, and only then realizes that the fire his father kept alive in the kitchen is the true strength that can help a person rise again.
