Heavy snow seals off the mountain, and the fire phoenix Dan Ling falls into a hunter named Xu Dashan's trap. To obtain her freedom, she willingly offers three fiery feathers, which can grow into precious red snow lotuses when planted in the soil. The prospect of a huge sum of silver awakens Xu Dashan's greed, and he repeatedly breaks his promises, forcibly plucking her protective heart feathers to make a profit. When Dan Ling misses the deadline for guarding the mountain, wildfires stir on Chixia Ridge, threatening to destroy the entire town. A poor young woman, Su Tang, rescues the gravely injured Dan Ling from the snow. Risking her life, Dan Ling ventures into the mountains to quell the flames. Xu Dashan finally repents and works hard to repay his debts. Through his story, he learns that greed brings disaster, and only conscience and kindness can safeguard the human world.
