In her past life, Ma Chunmei toiled her whole life for her husband and four children. In her old age, she was pressured by her second son Zhang Guoqiang and Shi Lancao into affixing her fingerprint to the property deed, and passed away soon after. She is reborn to the days before the 1978 Spring Festival, on the very day her eldest son Zhang Fengcheng meets with trouble. She calls in favors to secure his marriage, and stops giving everything to her family without reserve. As the new year approaches, she sells off her job, buys an apartment in the city, and lands a position as housekeeper with the Ye family. After her husband leaves of his own accord, she arranges for her three other children to go and work in the countryside, and starts a new life together with her eldest son and his wife. One snowy night, she keeps the young Ye Chengtian company; through her care and warmth, she gains his trust, and makes Ye Chengze see the legacy left by their elders in a new light.
