After facing setbacks away from home, Lin Che, a city-based video editor, returns to Qingyan Village. Confronted with an abandoned old tea garden, an old account book, and villagers watching from the sidelines, he wants to prove through his camera that his hometown still has value. The central conflict lies between the belief that no one can find a new way forward through filming and the growing sense of unity awakened by authentic documentation. Moving from avoiding failure to learning tea-making, communicating with villagers, clearing up misunderstandings, and building a reputation, he eventually edits his failed footage into a visual history of the village. When it is screened in the tea garden, the entire village rediscovers the worth of its hometown, and Lin Che chooses to put down roots there.
