A Li, a Xuanbiao demon sealed in Wugui Mountain, saves A Ning, a young woman from Qingshi Village, and the two form a deep bond. At sixteen, A Ning is recognized by the Dingyuan Marquis's residence as its legitimate daughter, Shen Zhining. Before leaving, she promises to return, but that very night she is hunted down and killed. Using A Ning's body, A Li breaks through the seal and escapes, while A Ning's soul follows her. Together, they vow to avenge A Ning and the massacre of Qingshi Village. Taking on Shen Zhining's identity, A Li enters the marquis's residence and navigates the schemes of the malicious adopted daughter Shen Mingzhu and the hypocritical Marquis Shen Chongyue. She joins forces with Lu Tingzhao of the Dali Temple and Wuchen, a Taoist priest from Taiqing Temple, to investigate the case. When the truth finally emerges, it is revealed that Shen Chongyue orchestrated numerous tragedies, including abandoning his daughter and massacring the village, driven by an obsession rooted in the past.
