Chen Jianguo, a construction-site team leader, and his fellow workers fall out with Deshun Canteen, their seven-year business partner, over a bowl of plain white rice. The owner charges extra fees for rice, drinking water, and other services, demanding exorbitant payments. After settling all outstanding bills, Chen Jianguo takes his workers to a simple food stall run by Li Weiguo, an honest and kind-hearted veteran. Together, they help him establish a trustworthy restaurant. The former owner, Ma Deshun, grows jealous and resorts to malicious competition and poisoning to harm others, eventually receiving a prison sentence. Afterwards, Chen Jianguo establishes a service platform to protect the rights of migrant workers. He also gives Ma Deshun, after his release from prison, a chance to reform and helps him turn over a new leaf. Their support model eventually spreads to other communities.
