Reborn, Liu Yaodong uses his memories of a past life to warn his family of a catastrophic blizzard on the eve of its arrival in 1977. He leads them in gathering supplies and reinforcing their home, successfully avoiding disaster and regaining the villagers' trust. He then organizes the entire village to gather medicinal herbs, hunt, and develop collectively owned village enterprises. While confronting hostile forces led by Chen Mancang, he gradually falls in love with Li Wanqing, a young educated woman sent to the countryside. Together, he leads the villagers out of poverty and toward prosperity, taking responsibility and rewriting their fate.
