In 1981, modern special forces soldier Lin Feng time-travels into a deep mountain bully of the same name, and upon opening his eyes is notified that the village belle Su Xiahe, whose betrothal gifts the original owner forced down, has run away with the money before the wedding. Lin Feng goes to demand an explanation, only to see Su Xiahe's third sister, Su Qiuxin, suffering from consumption and left by her family in the back mountain to fend for herself. Ignoring his aunt's obstruction, Lin Feng insists on saving her, draining his family savings to cure her illness, and even using modern hunting skills to go into the mountains to hunt, dig up ginseng, and gather herbs for money. Su Qiuxin takes everything in, replacing her sister to marry him out of gratitude. The Su family, however, repeatedly makes things difficult, falsely accusing him of kidnapping and assaulting him publicly. Lin Feng domineeringly protects his wife and decisively cuts ties. After marriage, they live in separate rooms; outwardly domineering and sharp-tongued, but actually protecting her everywhere.
