1981, Xu Tian Relies on His Backing to Make a Living and Protect His Wife and Daughter
Xu Tian is reborn in the rural Northeast of China in 1988. Facing an empty grain jar and the mockery of his sister-in-law, Li Guizhi, he ventures alone into Wild Fox Ridge late at night and hunts a plump wild dog and rabbits so his wife and daughter can eat meat. From then on, drawing on memories from his previous life, he ventures into the mountains to gather ginseng, catch cold-water fish, and collect mountain produce. He sells unsold sturgeon and mountain delicacies for high prices, humiliating his snobbish relatives. Rather than becoming wealthy alone, he helps the entire village establish a medicinal-herb slicing factory, secure foreign trade contracts, and acquire a tractor, leading everyone toward prosperity and helping them build spacious houses with blue bricks and tiled roofs. From a lazy laughingstock to a provincial model worker, Xu Tian supports his family and enriches the entire village with his own hands.
