In 1988, technician Chen Weiguo returned from studying in the Soviet Union and took over the failing Hongguang Soda Factory. On the eve of delivery, three eighth-grade veteran workers holding the core formula staged a collective strike to force his hand, demanding apartments, profit sharing, and the factory begging on its knees. Chen Weiguo immediately approved their resignations on the spot. Relying on the data logbook compiled from months in the workshop, he implemented standardized production to deliver the order on time, while the veteran workers' self-founded venture Meiweida faced endless obstacles.
