Zhou Xiangbei, a young man recently discharged from the military, partners with his uncle, Zhou Defa, in the wild ginseng business, only to have his earnings withheld. Relying on the mountain-foraging skills passed down by his grandfather, he ventures into the mountains to search for ginseng, facing repeated obstacles, including his uncle spreading rumors to tarnish his reputation and deliberately destroying ginseng patches. Staying true to his principles, Zhou Xiangbei refuses to pass off inferior goods as quality products. He joins forces with fellow villagers to establish the Laoyinggou Mountain Ginseng Cooperative and introduces rules to protect ginseng seeds and preserve forest resources. By helping villagers earn a fair income together and abandoning the old mindset of individuals exploiting resources for personal gain, he leads the community toward shared prosperity while safeguarding the mountains.
