Zhou Xiulan, a woman living in a county town, wins 30 million yuan in the lottery. Before she can share the good news, her own son, Song Lei, and daughter-in-law, Qiu Qian, change the locks and drive her out of their home. Her former daughter-in-law, Lin Xiaoman, takes her in, provides her with a bed and medicine, and stays by her side during a hospital stay. Using her winnings, Zhou Xiulan buys a house registered solely in her own name. She refuses her son's demands to sell it and buy another property with both spouses' names on the deed. She also sees through the scheme of Ma Guoqiang, introduced by Qiu Qian's mother, who pretends to want to buy a house but is actually trying to get her to cover his debts. At her birthday banquet, Zhou Xiulan confronts everyone openly and leaves the keys to Lin Xiaoman, the one who has truly cared for her. Song Lei, left sitting alone at an empty table, is finally shut out of her life.
