The Workshop Is Torn Down, Hearts Turn Cold; The Whole Village Comes to Apologize at His Door
Chen Weidong, a young man who has returned to his hometown, invests his entire savings of over 200,000 yuan to build a medicinal herb drying workshop on collectively owned village land. He makes it freely available to everyone in the village, solving the problem of medicinal herbs becoming moldy whenever it rains. Unexpectedly, villager He Guangcai grows jealous and suspicious, leading the villagers in surrounding the workshop and demanding a share of its profits. Their actions result in the workshop being ordered to close because its permits are incomplete. Deeply disheartened, Chen Weidong sells the equipment at a bargain price, shuts down the workshop, and leaves with a completely broken heart. After the drying workshop disappears, prolonged rainy weather causes large quantities of medicinal herbs throughout the village to become moldy and rot. When villagers seek drying services elsewhere, they are charged exorbitant prices and suffer enormous financial losses one after another before finally realizing their mistake.
