Wang Cuihua, in her sixties in modern times, fainted from anger while watching a clichéd short drama and woke up transmigrated into the harsh mother of Xu Shuisheng in the drama. Her son Xu Shuisheng blindly kept providing for Chen Jing and her son, the surviving family members of a deceased colleague, while neglecting his weak daughter-in-law Guihua and his starving, wronged biological granddaughter Baoya. Wang Cuihua takes her daughter-in-law and granddaughter to move into the machinery factory family quarters, takes back financial control, drives away Chen Jing, urges her son to fulfill his responsibilities, supports Guihua in learning to read and seeking a job, and teaches Baoya to be courageous and ambitious. She mediates all kinds of family disputes in the courtyard, winning a good reputation by growing and delivering vegetables and running a literacy class. Amidst the storm over the Ye family's background, her ability to take charge and get things done is noticed by the leaders, and she eventually becomes a factory women's federation officer.
