In 1980s Shanghai, on Funing Street, Jiang Wuyou and Shen Changgeng, both known for their less-than-stellar reputations, meet through a blind date and quickly decide to marry. The two establish three rules for their marriage and overcome neighborhood gossip, family conflicts, troublesome relatives, and harassers, while facing multiple challenges involving the bride price and mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships. Just as their grand wedding takes place, the origins of the little car used to fetch the bride become a mystery, hinting at a hidden fortune in Hong Kong and a promising side business.
