Zhang Yang, a modern coal industry mogul, travels back in time to 1980 after a car accident and becomes a miner with the same name. The original Zhang Yang has squandered the family's savings and accumulated debts, leaving his wife, Liu Yan, and daughter, Yiyi, without coal to keep warm. Using modern coal technology, Zhang Yang processes discarded coal slurry into honeycomb briquettes and earns enough to repay a 40-yuan debt in just three days, settling it in front of everyone. He then expands production with his wife and develops low-smoke bamboo charcoal coal, repeatedly foiling Li Hu's schemes to cut off his supplies, spread rumors, and sabotage his business. Ultimately, Zhang Yang exposes Li Hu's misdeeds, establishes a legitimate coal factory, leads the miners to prosperity, cures his daughter's illness, and wins back his wife's trust. The family finally moves into a spacious tiled-roof house.
