In the early 1980s, Lin Wan, a young woman from Kaoshantun Village, is forced by her family elders to remarry and is kicked out of her home. During a heavy snowstorm, she finds an abandoned little girl, Tuan Tuan, in a hollow tree. The two become each other's only family. Using her knowledge of medicinal herbs and her skills at gathering them in the mountains, Lin Wan struggles to make a living while raising Tuan Tuan and resisting her relatives' endless harassment. By a twist of fate, she meets Lu Zheng, and together they investigate Tuan Tuan's true origins and expose the people behind the plot against her. Lin Wan ventures deep into the mountains to find rare medicinal herbs, helping Tuan Tuan's biological mother recover her health. She eventually establishes herself in her hometown, leads the villagers in developing the medicinal herb industry, reclaims her rightful family property, and builds a successful career.
