In an 1980s mountain village, young Lin Xiuxiu refuses an arranged marriage, tears up the marriage agreement in front of everyone, and resolves to become self-reliant through her own hard work. Zhang Shouye, the village bully, monopolizes mountain produce and exploits the villagers. Xiuxiu establishes a mountain produce processing workshop to break his monopoly.
