A Bowl of Shepherd's Purse Dumplings, Moving an Entire Family
While working as a housekeeper in the Gu household, Sister Zhang picked shepherd's purse growing in the courtyard and made dumplings with it. The bowl of dumplings awakened Gu Yan's longing, buried for ten years, and carried his guilt toward his late mother. The Gu family follows rigid, meticulous principles of scientific child-rearing, leaving little warmth in the home. The dumplings broke their established routines and prompted Wen Lan, the perfectionist lady of the house, to reflect on herself. Gradually, the family untangled their emotional knots, embraced the simple warmth of everyday life, and traveled to Gu Yan's hometown to reconcile with the past. Later, when Sister Zhang returned to her hometown because her son had been admitted to university, the once-cold Gu courtyard finally filled with the genuine warmth and bustle of ordinary family life.
