Back-kitchen worker Lin Fan breaks up with his ex-girlfriend over different views on life, and is looked down upon by his former boss. When he is down on his luck, he unexpectedly discovers his family's ancestral land deed and a secret recipe book from an imperial chef of the Qing palace. He devotes himself to traditional cooking, and with craftsmanship creates the Lin Family Banquet. His former boss withdraws from the market due to his own business problems. Lin Fan lets go of the past, focuses on passing on Chinese culinary culture, takes apprentices to carry on the craftsmanship, and writes a new chapter of life through honest hard work.
