In 1994, on a green train bound for Shenzhen, Shen Chuan willingly gave up his sleeper berth to Zhou Yazhi, a pregnant woman struggling to stay on her feet, accepting only an old slip of paper with her contact information. Heading south on his own, he started from the bottom as a construction laborer and kitchen helper. With an honest, hard-working character and an upright heart, he built a life from scratch, opening twenty-two chain restaurants over the course of a decade. Cherished for years, that crumpled slip of paper bears witness to a heartwarming life where kindness circulates and sincere diligence meet halfway.
