On a stormy night, scholar Ning Caichen takes shelter from the pouring rain at Lanruo Temple, where he crosses paths with Xiaoqian. Staying under the same roof, the two bond over poetry and literature, completely unaware that Xiaoqian is the vengeful spirit whispered about in local legends. Her true motive for approaching Ning Caichen is to harvest his essence for an ancient demon in exchange for a single day of resurrection to seek vengeance. Amid the dim glow of temple lanterns night after night, Ning Caichen is deeply moved by Xiaoqian's tragic past and gentle soul. Yet before long, the horrifying truth of her ghostly identity comes to light. Will their love across the realms of the living and the dead find redemption, or is it doomed to tragedy? As the red candles burn out, their passionate affair proves to be nothing more than a fleeting dream—bound by two worlds that can never truly unite.
