Listening to Souls
On the Cangyu Continent, the cultivation world divides realms into Qi Refining, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, and Nascent Soul. The Wujiu Sect is a renowned sect in the middle reaches of the continent; its surface strict rules and salvation of all beings mask a reality of factional rivalry. There is a rare talent on the continent called "Soul Listening"—the ability to hear the last words of the deceased before they die. Regarded as an omen of bad luck, those who possess it are mostly abandoned by their sects. Moreover, if one knows an overheard last word and fails to report it, the curse will backbite the host, tangling day and night until collapse. Gu Chenyan, an outer-sect handyman of the Wujiu Sect, at the second layer of Qi Refining, has a pair of natural light blue eyes. Entering the sect for eight years, he cannot even touch the threshold of the third layer of Qi Refining, yet he carries the reputation of "Soul-Summoning Ears".
