Lin Mei returns to her village after serving a prison sentence for reselling goods, only to be shunned by most villagers except her brother who welcomes her back. Seeing that her niece Lin Xue was forced to drop out due to gender discrimination, Lin Mei resolves to fund her education. She takes Lin Xue to the city to do business, leveraging government policies and local sunflower resources to set up a melon seed workshop with her brother and sister-in-law. Within a year, they pay off their debts and build the village's first two-story house. Facing hostility from her family with grace, she prioritizes hiring villagers with daughters who wish to study, turning the tide against local patriarchal attitudes. Eventually, Lin Xue becomes the first in the village to enter vocational school, school attendance rates across nearby areas surge, and Lin Mei establishes a factory that brings prosperity to the whole town while building a blissful family of her own.
