To care for her sister with heart disease, Brynne Greene endures harassment and threats from her brother-in-law, Derek Cole. Desperate to escape his pursuit, she impulsively attends a blind date and enters into a whirlwind marriage with a stranger, only to discover he is Alec Rhodes, the wealthiest man in Fairmount. After the wedding, she realizes their "chance encounter" was meticulously orchestrated from the start; Alec had secretly loved her for years and bought out the matchmaking agency solely to keep her by his side as his wife. Amid Derek's slanders, her sister's declining health, the persistent advances of her college senior Miles Carter, and provocations from Natalie Vaughan, Alec steadfastly protects his wife and counters every threat. What began as a hasty marriage of convenience gradually blossoms into genuine, mutual love, culminating in the public revelation of their union and a happily-ever-after.
