Shen Jinyi, daughter of the General Protecting the Realm, waited bitterly for her sweetheart Su Zi'an, who had promised to return after winning distinction, and even spent her entire dowry to prepare supplies for the border guards. Unexpectedly, upon Su Zi'an's return, he was deceived by the orphan girl Liusu, who falsely claimed Shen Jinyi's acts of kindness as her own, and the two publicly asked her to fulfill their wishes. Heartbroken, Shen Jinyi chose to enter the palace, winning the emperor's respect with her intelligence and broad mind. Later, when the truth came to light, both Liusu and Su Zi'an were punished. Shen Jinyi continued her good deeds, managed the inner palace, eventually ascended to the throne of Empress, and lived out a brilliant life uniquely her own.
