In 1997, in Shakou Town, Old Lin's repair shop has accumulated over ten thousand IOUs, while his youngest daughter urgently needs surgery money. His son, Lin Jianjun, returns from the city and establishes a new rule: repairs must be paid for on the spot. Liu the Fat leads troublemakers in causing a scene, while his uncle by marriage, Zhou Jinshui, and his family cheat, steal goods, and resell refurbished parts. Refusing to be emotionally blackmailed by personal ties, Lin Jianjun produces the account records and exposes their shady dealings.
