Five years ago, cabbage prices in Xingfu Village hit rock bottom, leaving the villagers struggling to survive. Out of goodwill, the wealthiest man in the county, Hao Ren, helped them sell cabbages for free for five years. This year, due to market downturns, the cabbage price dropped by twenty cents. Instead of understanding, the villagers blamed Hao Ren, accusing him of taking kickbacks. Liu Lu, a university graduate working as a village official, also misunderstood him. An angry mob even injured Hao Ren's mother. Heartbroken and disappointed, Hao Ren decided never to help again. In the end, the villagers' cabbages were left rotting in the fields, and only then did they realize their grave mistake—when it was already too late.
