A Self-Built Public Convenience Bridge: Witnessing the Many Facets of Village Life
Returning home to start a business, young man Lin Yue self-funded the construction of a convenience river-crossing bridge in Qingliu Village, charging only a 1-yuan maintenance fee. Villager Zhao Youde wanted to let an overloaded heavy truck pass the bridge and was refused, so he maliciously spread rumors and joined villagers in reporting Lin Yue. The bridge was deemed an uncertified private construction, requiring a 10,000-yuan fine. A cold-hearted Lin Yue accepted the fine, then dug up the approach bridge publicly, welded the iron gate shut, and permanently closed the convenience bridge. Villagers could only detour 15 kilometers of muddy roads, and agricultural product transportation was blocked, rotting heavily. Zhao Youde's delivery truck for betrothal gifts encountered a landslide and got stuck, household appliances were damaged, and his son's engagement was canceled. Villagers came to plead with moral kidnapping, but Lin Yue adhered strictly to the rules and refused. Trouble-makers suffered the consequences of their own actions, straightening out selfish people in the countryside.
