A family from an old factory compound. The parents give the welfare housing and the permanent job recommendation to their younger son Shen Chuan, while habitually pushing the family expenses onto their elder son Shen Yue and his wife. Shen Yue has already quietly applied for a transfer to the southern branch factory, and after arguments and honest talks, the couple resolve to leave their family of origin. Shen Chuan falls into a debt crisis from reckless borrowing, and Shen Yue refuses to cover for him without limits, only guiding him with a way out. After many twists, Shen Chuan learns to take responsibility on his own, and the parents reflect on their past favoritism. Shen Yue and Zhao Ning head south to start a new life, and the whole family lets go of the old way of getting along and learns to live with clear boundaries.
