This drama tells the story of Chen Yuanchuan, chairman of Yuanchuan Fresh Group, and his eighteen-year repayment of a debt of gratitude. Thirty-eight-year-old Chen Yuanchuan was tricked into a black coal mine in his youth. While escaping desperately, he was hidden by Liang Fushan, an elderly fruit farmer in Xiagou Village, inside a truck bed filled with apples, allowing him to survive. To treat the heavily wounded and dying Chen Yuanchuan, Liang Fushan resolutely misappropriated twenty thousand yuan of deposit money intended for his one-year-old granddaughter Liang Xiaoman's cochlear implant surgery, and for this borrowed high-interest debt from village secretary Zhao Dehai. This sum entangled the Liang family in compound-interest debt for eighteen years. When Chen Yuanchuan healed and left, he gave Liang Fushan a copper whistle engraved with wheat ear patterns left by his father as a token, promising to come back with this whistle to repay the kindness.
