After a toxic smog blankets Binjiang City, bizarre subterranean attacks occur one after another, which the corporation covers up as "wild animal break-ins." Underground pipeline maintenance worker Lin Shen encounters a colossal mutant creature and teams up with biological researcher Su Wan, retired serviceman Wei Gang, and community physician Tang Xiaotang to investigate. Venturing deep below ground to trace the origin of the mutations, the four uncover the truth behind a concealed animal mutagenesis accident from ten years ago and clues regarding Lin Shen's missing father. Simultaneously, they confront Chen Jingshan, the former project head trying to cover everything up, to stop the mutant matriarch lurking in the abyss from emerging and devouring all of Binjiang City.
