When their parents die in a car crash, Chen Wei and her blond little brother Chen Jie are left with only each other. Their uncle and aunt, greedy for the inheritance, plan to marry her off for a bride price, but Chen Jie, the street punk everyone has written off, stands in the doorway with an axe to protect his sister and promises to pay for her university. From then on, this delinquent the whole village looks down on becomes Chen Wei's “guardian”: he drops out of school to work, and with his young hands puts his sister through to Tsinghua and Peking University. Years later, Chen Wei has made it and wants to share everything she has earned with her brother, only to uncover a secret he has kept for ten years.
