An Eternal Outstanding Achievement: Bai Ying Tames the Waters

10 episodesOngoing

As a young boy, Bai Ying experienced the Wen River flood firsthand and lost his mother. Over thirty years, he traveled across river channels to survey water conditions, drawing water management blueprints by hand, only to be repeatedly ignored by the officials. During the Yongle era, Song Li, the Minister of Works, employed the commoner Bai Ying to manage the Huitong River and the Nanwang River section, and the two made a secret pact: "Five years to clear the Grand Canal, eight years for complete success." Facing his political enemy Qian Qian, who embezzled provisions, deliberately destroyed construction, and fabricated archives to frame him, Bai Ying risked his life to complete the Yuzui water-dividing project. When the great success was achieved, he was falsely accused, but luckily relied on preserved evidence to clear his grievances, ultimately exhausting his life in exchange for the endless flow of the canal.
