During the Great Yu Dynasty's famine, Lu Ye awakens the supernatural ability to understand animal speech when he is driven to the brink of selling his younger sister to repay a debt. With his ability to understand the words of birds and beasts, he ventures into Black Wind Ravine to hunt wild boars, fights packs of wolves, and slays fierce tigers.
