I helped my elder brother look after the ponds and raise crabs, netting a profit of 1.98 million yuan by year's end. Yet when dividing profits, he only gave me 50,000 yuan, claiming the boats were his, the laborers were his hires, and the sales channels were his connections, while I merely looked after the ponds and caught crabs with zero technical skills. My sister-in-law Zhou Meiqin cracked melon seeds beside us: "Chuan, 50,000 is a lot; where else could you earn that much?" My father Shen Dehou said in a heavy voice: "Your brother had it tough this year too. Seven crab ponds across 120 mu—feed and labor cost money everywhere. Fifty thousand straight into your pocket, be content."
