Five Daughters Change Their Names, None Is Named Zhaodi
In 1994, Fang Xiuyun had spent fourteen years tirelessly serving the Han family and given birth to five daughters in succession. Yet her husband, Han Daye, brought home Luo Yanqiu, who was pregnant with his child, and forced Xiuyun to divorce him. Her cruel mother-in-law despised her for failing to produce a son and even planned to sell her youngest granddaughter for money, while forcibly keeping the eldest daughter, Zhaodi, behind. With her heart completely broken, Fang Xiuyun poured the stewed chicken into the pig trough and tearfully took her other daughters to seek refuge with her family. Through an introduction, she met Lu Chengshan, a village cook who had suffered lasting injuries while fighting floods. He was not obsessed with having a son and was willing to accept all five girls. Together, they returned to the Han family and argued their case in front of the village Party secretary, successfully bringing Zhaodi back. With the whole family aboard a tractor, they headed toward a brand-new life.
